Police: Boy, 6, shot in foot while playing basketball

Police say a 6-year-old boy is recovering at a hospital after he was shot in his left foot while playing basketball in South Philadelphia.

The shooting happened around 11:30 p.m. Monday. Chief Inspector Scott Small says about 10 to 20 people were playing basketball in the rear driveway of a home when they heard a gunshot.

By the time officers arrived, the victim’s parents had already taken the boy to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He’s in stable condition.

Small says investigators found no ballistics evidence and don’t have a motive.
