Police arrest one suspect in Manayunk jewelry robbery

One arrest has been made in connection with last week’s jewelry heist on Main Street in Manayunk.

Raheem Hankerson, 30, turned himself in to police on Tuesday after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Police are still looking for the second suspect, Anthony Burnett, 43, of the 2400 block of Nicholas Street in Philadelphia. Police believe Burnett was the man seen on surveillance video inside the jewelry store on March 29 with a gun, wearing a trench coat and white hat.

The two men allegedly stole approximately $100,000 in jewelry from A.I. Poland Jewelers in Manayunk after striking the shop’s owner on the head several times with a handgun and tying him up in the back of the store with another female employee.

Within minutes of the heist, witnesses told police they saw a vehicle traveling quickly away from the store. Police say the driver and passenger were then spotted exiting the vehicle, moving items from the back of the car to the trunk and running through a nearby alley.

The jewelry, the owner’s stolen handgun and Hankerson’s wallet were all recovered by police in the car parked on the 200 block of Kalos Street in Roxborough.

Anyone with more information on the whereabouts of Anthony Burnett is asked to call the Northwest Detective Division at 215-686-3353.
