Plans unveiled for Radford sinking

Plans to sink the USS Radford off the coast of Delaware will be unveiled this afternoon at the Philadelphia Navy Yard.

Governor Markell is expected to be on hand for the announcement. When sunk as part of the Del-Jersey-Land Reef, the Radford will become the longest vessel ever used as an artificial reef in the Atlantic Ocean. The ship will be dropped into the water at a point equally distant from Delaware, Maryland and New Jersey. The ship will become a habitat for fish and other marine life, and provide recreational fishing and diving opportunities for residents and tourists.
