PHS Names New President
The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) has announced that President Jane G. Pepper will step down on June 1. President since 1981, Pepper has a tremendous influence on the organization. During her tenure the society’s membership has doubled to 16,000 and the staff has grown by more than 70 people.
Pepper’s successor, Drew Becher, will be the 36th president of PHS in its 187-year history. His resume is impressive: Becher is currently the Executive Director of New York Restorations Project (NYRP), the organization responsible for New York City’s MillionTreesNYC, which led to the planting of over 310,000 trees throughout the five boroughs. Becher was also instrumental in bringing NYRP environmental education programs to more than 10,000 children in underserved communities.
