Photos: Tsunami threat raises ocean tides in California

While Japan battles the aftermath of this morning’s devastating earthquake, some of the natural effects reached U.S. shores. As parts of Hawaii were evacuated for fear of a tsunami, Northern California saw some unusually high tides this morning.

David Crimmins, brother of WHYY’s Arts & Culture reporter Peter Crimmins, snapped the photos below in California. Taken five minutes apart at about 9 a.m., they show a four-foot rise in the tide in Havens Neck in Mendocino County.
