St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Hamilton, Mercer County hosted its annual Greek Festival this past weekend, May 14-17, 2015.
This year marking the 40th anniversary of the festival the four-day event was also a fundraiser for the church featuring Greek food, live music, dancing, costumes, a market and church tours. Attracting thousands of visitors from all around the area this festival has become a crown jewel of the community.
Joanne Kakoyiannis, one of the co-chairs of the festival says the majority of attendees are not from the Greek community. “This festival is chance for people to learn about our culture, our heritage, our religion, to see our beautiful church an of course taste our delicious food which is all home made. It’s a wonderful experience not only for the Mercer county and Hamilton Township, but for us a well, we get together and socialize. Everybody is bringing their children, their grandchildren, people are helping from age 8 to 80”.
