Philly special ed teacher accused of sex with boy

A special education teacher in northeast Philadelphia has been charged with having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student.

Prosecutors allege that 30-year-old Stephanie Amato, an 8th grade teacher at Ethan Allen School, had sex with the youth in her home and car on multiple occasions between March and April.

Amato was charged Wednesday with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor, endangering the welfare of a child and other charges.

School district spokesman Fernando Gallard told The Philadelphia Inquirer that Amato was removed from the Mayfair school after the allegations surfaced. She is currently suspended with pay pending an administrative hearing next week.
