Philly police officer on SUV running board injured after driver takes off

Police are seeking a sport utility vehicle driver they say drove off with an officer standing on the vehicle’s running board and continued for several blocks, leaving the officer injured.

Police said officers in West Philadelphia saw the Ford Explorer strike a parked vehicle at about 2:40 a.m. Sunday. One officer approached the passenger-side window but then jumped on the running board to avoid injury from approaching traffic.

Police said the driver then pulled off and drove for about four blocks despite the officer’s attempt to get his attention by striking the window. When he slowed, the officer jumped off but was left with injuries to both hands, his legs and his left foot. Police later found the vehicle parked and are seeking the driver, described as in his mid-30s.
