Philly pays to reach bored people in the sky

If you’ve flown on U.S. Airways recently you may have noticed Philadelphia is getting more than 15 minutes of fame from the in-flight magazine.

The cover of U.S. Airways Magazine and 85 pages inside are devoted to Philadelphia, featuring everything from real estate developer Toll Brothers to the region’s many museums.

Sharon Rossi of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation worked with the airline to put the magazine together.

“Philadelphia is not the Philadelphia that it was 10 years ago, even five years ago,” Rossi said.  “Philadelphia, the way it talks about itself is different, the way it feels about itself is different and we thought that this section would give us the opportunity to reach out to partners and represent better all that Philadelphia was.”

Rossi won’t say how much her group paid for the placement, but paid for a smaller one last year.

The magazine is made available to six million passengers and Rossi hopes they may rethink travel and business plans after reading the spread.
