Though the weather looks a bit dodgy this weekend, our list of family fun will leave you with sunny hearts.

    Friday: Venice Island Live Outdoors

Friday night, the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation presents Venice Island Live Outdoors with family fun featuring movie nights, live music, food trucks and activities for kids and adults. This gorgeous new performing and recreation center is beautiful inside and out, so check it out,

    Saturday: Pop-up Play Festival

With the popularity (pun intended) of the pop-up movement, it’s no surprise that a kid-friendly movement has begun. The free pop-up play festival is a festival by kids and for kids, with obstacle courses, face-painting, chalk games, a giant Boggle tournament and more. It’s 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Independence Seaport Museum, Penn’s Landing near the Spruce Street Harbor.

    Saturday: Schoolhouse Rocks!

Relive your Saturday morning cartoon glory days by taking your kids to see ‘Schoolhouse Rock Live Jr.’ at the Walnut Street Theater. If you can recite the entire preamble of the Constitution (even if you didn’t know that’s what it was) or if your inner voice says, “a person, place or thing” anytime you hear the word “noun,” this event is for you and your kids. And for this last 11 a.m. show, tickets are discounted through Funsavers.

    Saturday: Elfreth’s Alley Fete Day

This historical tradition dates back over 75 years. Tickets to the event allow families to tour the inside of the homes used by tradesmiths going back all the way to the early 1700s. Fete Day boasts a parade down the alley, historical reenactments, storytelling, refreshments and live music. Get thee some history!

Sunday: Bike Race and Block Party

Sunday is the big day, the clanking of the cowbells and the climbing of the wall are all part of the Philadelphia International Cycling Classic. Our favorite spot to watch the race is over at the East Falls Block Party where there is lots of fun stuff to see, do, eat and drink. Plus, a lovely playground to keep the kids entertained while they wait for the riders to come through.
