Philadelphia preparing for oncoming storm

The City of Philadelphia already is preparing for a storm that appears to be headed toward the region next week.

Even though it’s uncertain whether the storm will hit Philadelphia, Managing Director Rich Negrin said the city has to prepare for the worst.

“We’re treating this storm a lot like we treated Irene last year,” Negrin said. “We are having operational meetings, we are getting ready. It’s a few days out, so we have time to prepare. We obviously hope it goes out to sea, but if it doesn’t, we’ll be ready for it.”

Negrin said people in flood-prone areas should also prepare.

“Make sure you have your batteries, your flashlights, some food, so you are prepared for the power to go out,” he said. “It’s going to be a lot like last year, we believe.”

Negrin said the city will be tracking the storm all weekend.
