Philadelphia Deputy Mayor of Health honored by American Medical Association

Philadelphia’s Deputy Mayor of Health and Opportunity and Department of Public Health Commissioner Donald M. Schwarz has been honored by the American Medical Association.

Schwarz received the statewide Dr. Nathan Davis Award for Outstanding Government Service for promoting “the art and science of medicine and the betterment of public health,” a statement from Mayor Michael Nutter’s office says.

The former pediatrician assumed the city role in 2008 and is currently developing electronic health records for the prison system and the city’s public health centers. He’s among seven to receive the award.

Maybe this story can garner more attention than medical jokers Kermit Gosnell and the woman who enjoys illegally injecting silicone into women’s buttocks? Maybe?
