A solemn procession from Fireman’s Hall to the Betsy Ross House kicked off a Tuesday morning ceremony to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.Joined by veterans, historians and a retired New York City firefighter, local police, fire and prison officials gathered in full uniform to honor those who did not survive the 2001 attacks, and to comfort those who did.

Students from Frankford and Council Rock South high schools joined the event, which included the participation of a Philadelphia Police Department bugler, a rendition of “Amazing Grace” and the ringing of the memorial bell for firefighters who gave their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.
