Philadelphia celebrates Bike Week

MAY 16, 2011.  PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.  May is National Bike Month and The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia is hosting and supporting several events in Philadelphia this week.  These free events draw significant public participation and all represent good photo opportunities.

BICYCLE COALITION’S 7TH ANNUAL COMMUTER RACE: a bicyclist, a public transit user, and a ZipCar driver race from Mifflin Square to City Hall.

DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 18th at 8:00 am

LOCATION: Mifflin Square and Municipal Services Building, Phila PA.

Photo opportunity at Municipal Services Building at approximately 8:30 am.

RIDE OF SILENCE: an international annual bicycle ride honoring cyclists killed or injured by motor vehicles.

DATE/TIME: Wednesday, May 18th, 6:45 pm – 8:00 pm.

LOCATION: Philadelphia Museum of Art steps and throughout Phila, PA.

Photo opportunity at PMA steps at 6:45 pm.

NATIONAL BIKE TO WORK DAY: Mayor Nutter and Representatives Brady and Fattah join a bicycle commute. 

DATE/TIME: Friday, May 20th, 8:00 am – 9:00 am.

LOCATION: Philadelphia Museum of Art steps and Dilworth Plaza, Phila PA.

Photo opportunity either at PMA steps or Dilworth Plaza.

KENSINGTON KINETIC SCULPTURE DERBY: public street festival and design competition celebrating human-powered transit sponsored by New Kensington Community Development Corporation.

DATE/TIME: Saturday, May 21st from 12:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

LOCATION: Trenton and Norris Streets, Phila PA.

Photo opportunity throughout afternoon.
