Philadelphia Gas Works customers are getting a break just in time for the holidays.
A drop in the cost of natural gas is being passed on to PGW customers.
From Dec. 1 through Mar. 1, the cost of gas will go down 10¢ per hundred cubic feet in Philadelphia. Cameron Kline of PGW says that means savings for homeowners and others using gas, which is especially good at a time when the temperature drops and heating bills rise.
“The company adjusts its gas rates on a quarterly basis so four times a year we look at what the market is selling gas for, we look at our contracting and hedging programs and see where we can buy the best gas possible and we calculate all of those numbers to come up with a new quarterly adjustment,” said Kline.
Kline says the numbers work out to about $15 a month savings for the average homeowner. He adds that people who can’t afford to pay their utility bill should go to PGW’s website at pgworks.com to find out about assistance programs.
