Pennsylvania’s state capitol was rocked yesterday by reports that State Treasurer Rob McCord is under federal investigation.

Pennsylvania’s state capitol was rocked yesterday by reports that State Treasurer Rob McCord is under federal investigation. The news came just hours after McCord announced his resignation effective February 12 to return to the private sector.

McCord is in his second term as the state’s elected treasurer. McCord ran unsuccessfully for governor last year, losing in the Democratic primary to Tom Wolf.

The Philadelphia Inquirer quoted anonymous sources as saying federal investigators were asking questions about McCord’s campaign activities. 6ABC reported the probe focuses on the alleged theft of campaign and other funds.

McCord isn’t saying anything about the reports. His spokesman Gary Tuma said in a statement the treasurer’s office routinely receives subpoenas from law enforcement, and that it cooperates and honors the confidentiality of any such inquiry.
