PECO investigating strange odor around Philly

A utility company serving the Philadelphia area has received hundreds of phone calls from residents reporting a gas smell, but crews have not found the source.

PECO spokeswoman Jackie Thompson says more than 400 residents had called as of 4 p.m. Saturday.

Thompson tells that workers are investigating every odor complaint but haven’t detected any leaks in the system. The smell has been reported in Delaware, Montgomery, Bucks and Chester counties.

PECO has called in extra staffers and opened an emergency operations center in Plymouth Meeting to deal with the issue.
