Pa. woman charged with murder in elderly neighbor’s death

A suburban Philadelphia woman has been charged with murder in the death of her elderly neighbor, which authorities allege stemmed from an assault last fall.

Thirty-four-year-old Elisabeth Floyd of East Norriton was arraigned Friday in Montgomery County on third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter charges.

Prosecutors said 97-year-old Alfred Payne died Feb. 19 at a long-term care facility following the Sept. 21 assault.

Payne told police that he had gone out to his driveway to get his newspaper when Floyd, who he had never met, attacked him.

Authorities allege that she later approached the ambulance holding a vase of flowers and said “I am sorry I hurt him.”

Authorities said Payne’s death stemmed from a hip fracture sustained in the attack. Her attorney didn’t immediately return a call seeking comment Saturday.
