Pa. drug kingpin’s underling gets life in slayings
A co-defendant of Philadelphia drug kingpin Kaboni Savage has been sentenced to life in prison for his role in a firebombing that killed six people.
A jury last year found 34-year-old Robert Merritt guilty of conspiracy to participate in drug trafficking and the 2004 arson.
Savage, a former boxer, is on death row for killing at least a dozen people during his years running a violent crack-cocaine empire.
His victims include the family of an informant killed in the firebombing, as well as rivals and a stranger who had bumped his car.
Savage was given 13 death sentences after the lengthy federal trial.
His sister, Kidada Savage, and co-defendant Steven Northington are also serving life terms after their trial convictions.
Merritt’s lawyers did not immediately return messages Friday.
