Pa. Dem chairman to oppose McGinty, Wolf’s choice for seat

Pennsylvania Democratic Party chairman Jim Burn says he intends to challenge Katie McGinty, the hand-picked candidate of Democratic gubernatorial nominee Tom Wolf, when the party’s state committee chooses a new chairman later this month.

Burn said Thursday that the party has prospered under his four years of leadership and is is highly regarded nationally. He said he sees no reason to change a successful formula and that, win or lose, he’ll accept the decision of the state committee at its June 21 meeting.

Burn’s comments come on the heels of Wednesday’s disclosure by Wolf that he was endorsing McGinty, a former state environmental protection secretary who finished fourth in the four-way Democratic primary race, for the party chairmanship.

In his email to state committee members, Wolf praised Burn’s track record.
