One suspect remains at large in Mt. Airy’s East Sharpnack St. shooting

Police have yet to charge anyone with homicide in the deadly shooting which occurred this weekend in East Mt. Airy. The shooting occurred Friday night at 8:34 p.m. in the east 200 block of Sharpnack St., near Emlen Elementary. Two men were shot, one suffered fatal wounds. Police now say one male suspect is still at large.

On Friday night, Inspector Joe Bartorilla told NewsWorks that there were three male suspects one had been captured and the other two were last seen near SEPTA’s Carpenter Lane Station.

Officer Christine O’Brien, of the Philadelphia Police’s Office of Media Relations identified the victim

as Nafis Armstead, 23, of unit block of E. Hortter St. in East Mt. Airy. He had been shot in the head, chest, back and three times in his leg and was pronounced dead at Albert Einstein Medical Center.

Police have not identified the other victim, age 26, who was shot numerous times in the torso and remains in critical condition at Einstein Medical Center.

Police Spokewoman Tanya Little said the suspect taken into custody is Brian Tootle, 19, of 500 E. Mayland St. in East Germantown, who is charged with only weapons possession at this time. Tootle was apprehended on the 200 block of Rosemary Lane in West Mt. Airy after police followed his green van to the location. Two guns were recovered by police at this location.

A female who had been taken into custody at Rosemary Lane was questioned and released. Officer O’Brien had no further info about this woman.

Police still do not have a motive for Friday night’s double shooting.
