One man dead in Wilmington fire

A late night fire on W. 37th St. in Wilmington claimed the life of a man and injured two others.

Wilmington firefighters were called to the scene around 11:30 Monday night and found heavy fire conditions at the front door. As they battled the flames, they learned there was one person still inside.

Firefighters located a man inside and he was transported to Christiana Hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. A second victim, a woman, was also taken to the hospital in critical condition after suffering injuries trying to escape the fire.  A third victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The fire was placed under control around 12:30 Tuesday morning. The Wilmington Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the cause of the fire and the scene is still considered active.
