NYC woman sentenced for going topless on N.J.beach

A New Jersey judge has sentenced a New York City woman who went topless on the Spring Lake beach to 12 days in prison.

Phoenix Feeley made a court appearance by video link from the Monmouth County Jail Thursday.

The Asbury Park Press reports the judge ordered jailtime after she refused to pay $816 in fines.

Feeley was fined for sunbathing topless on the beach in June of 2008 and for dropping her top after her release in 2008.

An appeals court later dismissed her argument that the town’s public nudity ordinance discriminated against women because men are permitted to appear topless.

Feeley received a $29,000 settlement in 2007 after she was charged briefly with indecent exposure in New York City in 2005.
