Nutter reacts to report of lack of look-out

Reports say there was not a crew member on the barge at the time of the accident.

The investigation continues into a city owned barge that struck a duckboat. Published reports say no one was on the barge looking for trouble at the time of the accident.

Mayor Michael Nutter says he doesn’t want to comment on the report that there was no one assigned to watch as the barge named the Resource collided with a duck boat that was disabled and stalled in the shipping channel of the Delaware River.

“This is all a matter under serious review by the National Transportation Safety Board, I really can’t get into any of the details as from time to time some of the details will come out. The entire matter is of great concern to me, we had a terrible accident on the river and two people lost their lives as a result.”

The mayor says he spoke to N.T.S.B. investigators seeking answers, but says they aren’t prepared to come up with anything soon and will do a complete investigation before making a ruling on the incident.
