Mayor Michael Nutter, kids, police officers from the 14th and 35th districts , representatives from the District Attorney’s office and others teamed up on Monday night for an event that was meant to promote dialouge at Simons Recreation Center in West Oak Lane.

“It is most important to engage in dialouge, respect each other and acknowledge that there are problems,” said Nutter.

This is the second time the Speak Up – Lace ’em Up event has been held in the city. The “grassroots partnership of organizations and individuals engaged in developing, nurturing, and sustaining opportunities for ongoing positive police community relationships” hopes to spread to other neighborhoods as well.
