N.J. residents fear LG Electronics expansion

Residents of a northern New Jersey town where environmentalists have been fighting the expansion of an electronics company say they worry the project will pave the way for an era of big development.

The Concerned Residents of Englewood Cliffs say a planned 143-foot building for LG Electronics will set a dangerous precedent for big development in the borough, which is located on one of the last pristine sections of the Palisades cliffs along the Hudson River.

They are urging borough officials to reverse their support for the project.

A spokesman for LG Electronics says it continues to be open to talks with the community to reach a reasonable settlement of the height controversy. Supporters of the project say it will bring the borough jobs and revenue.
