Nike gives small retailers the boot
Some small retailers in Philadelphia say they’re getting the boot from Nike and don’t know why.
The athletic shoe and clothing company is telling the stores their accounts are being terminated as of June 30. That means they can’t sell Nike products any longer.
Keith Sherman has worked for 21 years as a manager at Real McCoy Sports, one of the stores being cut off by Beaverton, Ore.-based Nike Inc. He says they received an email notice but there wasn’t any explanation.
Sherman says around 75 percent of his store’s business is for Nike products so it could mean big trouble for the store, in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood.
It’s unclear whether similar changes are occurring in other cities. Nike tells KYW-TV it’s “constantly evaluating its distribution needs.”
