Forecast for Mt. Airy USA’s Friday night movie looks good

It appears that Mt. Airy USA’s scheduled outdoor Friday night movie “The Sandlot” will have good weather. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a high of 85 on Friday. The remnants of Hurricane Irene are on track to hit the Philadelphia region Saturday afternoon and into Sunday.

Last Friday’s Moonlight Movie was cancelled due to thunderstorms.

The movie The Sandlot will show in the garden next to the Lovett Library in Mt. Airy tomorrow night at 8:30 p.m.

The Sandlot follows the story of new kid Scotty Smalls and his first summer learning how to play baseball with the help of neighbor Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez and his ragtag group of friends.

The boys play ball every day on their lot, and the games are fun and full of humor. The kids also have plenty of adventures: a trip to the local pool, a game against the town’s pretentious little leaguers and a carnival with an stomach-churning ending.

Their final adventure? Trying to recover a home-run ball, which belongs to Smalls’ stepfather and was signed by the Sultan of Swat himself, Babe Ruth.

The movie is lighthearted and entertaining, a perfect fit for any family. Viewers of all ages will respond to this picture of children playing the great American pastime for sheer love of the game.

Maybe if you take your kids to see it, they’ll give baseball a shot themselves and get some fresh air instead of spending hours inside playing Call of Duty or Halo.
