Newark Police arrest a man accused of trying to abduct two women over the July 4th weekend.

Joseph Rudge was arrested in Wilmington after a number of tips from the public about his whereabouts. The 35-year-old Newark man was identified as the suspect in a pair of attempted abductions last weekend. Police say he tried to abduct a 28-year-old University of Delaware student and a 61-year-old woman in separate attacks in Newark. Both women were able to fight off the attack and get away.

Following up on tips, the Newark SWAT team served a search warrant on a home in the 1200-block of North Claymont Street in Wilmington. They took Rudge into custody without incident. He’s being held at Wilmington’s Young prison on $48,700 secured bond.
