New Jersey Turnpike widening nearly finished

Work on a major New Jersey Turnpike widening project is set to end ahead of schedule and more than $200 million under budget.

Northbound lanes between Interchange 6 in Burlington County and Interchange 9 in Middlesex County are set to open this weekend. The southbound lanes are scheduled to be ready for traffic next weekend.

The $2.5 billion project to widen the toll road from six lanes to 12 along a 35-mile stretch began in June 2009.
