At least four people were found dead at the scene of a mansion fire in Monmouth County early Tuesday afternoon, authorities say.

Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced at a late Tuesday afternoon press conference that two adults and two children were found when firefighters and police responded to a blaze at the sprawling residence on Willow Brook Road in Colts Neck around 12:30 p.m.

Gramiccioni, who classified the situation as an arson investigation, reported that police investigative efforts were hampered by the fire, which was still being fought by numerous fire departments as of around 5 p.m.

The prosecutor confirmed that four people were found dead late Tuesday afternoon but added that the investigation is fluid.

One person, a man, was found in front of the house, while three were found severely burned inside the house, Gramiccioni said.

The prosecutor could not confirm media reports that the man found outside had a gunshot wound.

Gramiccioni added that authorities were investigating an arson at the Ocean Township home of relative of the Colts Neck homeowner Tuesday, saying that prosecutors were working to determine if there’s any linkage.

No injuries were reported in the Ocean Township blaze.
