Mother says Philly suspect in daughter’s murder sent apology text

The mother of a woman strangled in a North Philadelphia row home says the suspect sent a text message of apology to her after the slaying.

Police said a man called them shortly after 2 a.m. Monday to say he had just killed his girlfriend in a Kensington residence. Officers found 27-year-old Veronica Rodriguez dead.

Police said 25-year-old Juan Camacho faces charges including murder and rape. He remains in custody and it wasn’t immediately clear whether he had an attorney.

The victim’s mother, Maribel Guzman, told WBBH-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, that her daughter told her in a Mother’s Day call Sunday that she had just broken up with Camacho.

Guzman alleged that early Monday the man sent her a text message saying “I’m sorry I killed your daughter.”
