Most Philadelphia Council members reject cost of living adjustment

Mayor Michael Nutter and most Philadelphia City Council members have rejecte the Cost of Living Adjustment raise they’re in line for — the first in two years.

Nutter has also agreed to a 10-percent pay cut and a two-week furlough, while seven council members have either accepted the 1.9 percent increase or have not yet decided what to do with the money.

Here’s the breakdown from the Inquirer:

Jack Kelly, Joan Krajewski, and Curtis Jones did not respond by last night’s deadline, so they’ll receive the raise, but can return it if they choose. Blondell Reynolds Brown, Maria Quiñones Sánchez, Frank Rizzo and Frank DiCicco accepted the raise.

Jones’ father died Wednesday, which likely accounts for his lack of response. Kelly, Rizzo, DiCicco and Krajewski are serving out their last terms.

The eight Council members who elected to return the COLAs to the general fund will contribute about $17,000 combined.
