Mayoral front runner Jim Kenney opens up about guns, Planned Parenthood, and the future of Philadelphia

Morning Edition host Jennifer Lynn spoke with Democratic Mayoral candidate Jim Kenney, who is widely considered to be the mayor in waiting. In a city where Democrats outnumber Republicans 7-to-1, the 23-year city councilman is still treating this like a race and refuses to be complacent with his frontrunner status.

“You shouldn’t get complacent in any regard when it comes to the next step in leading the city,” Kenney said. “Complacency is not a part of the agenda.” 

While Kenney will not name any names, he acknowledged that he has already begun putting a team together and has started to craft policy for the next administration in the event that he wins the election. 

“We will have a group of folks that we can be proud of,” he said, “from an ability standpoint, from a compassion standpoint, and from a diversity standpoint.”
