More than 6K bags of heroin and arsenal of guns off Delaware streets

Just hours after Wilmington Police unveiled its plans to crack down on violent crime in the city, officers arrested a couple with an arsenal of weapons in their home.

Officers seized five guns, including an AK-47 assault rifle, at a home in the 500 block of N. Franklin Street.  Members of the city’s Drug Organized Crime and Vice Unit also seized 5,925 bags of heroin totaling 118.5 grams worth nearly $60,000.

Police say Kevin and Shauntai Harris now face a host of gun and drug charges.  In addition to the AK-47, police say they found a Colt .357 Magnum, a Herstal .25 caliber semi-automatic handgun, a Glock .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, and a Ruger .357 magnum handgun.  They also seized $11,741 in cash.

Kevin Harris, who is a convicted felon, is being held in Wilmington’s Young Correctional Institution on $5 million cash bond.  Shauntai Harris is being held at the Baylor women’s prison on $431,000 secured bond.

While on uniformed patrol in the 300 block of N. Franklin Street, Wilmington Police also arrested Deshawn Scott, a man they say is a West Side drug dealer.

Officers approached Scott shortly before 8 p.m. for loitering on a stoop in front of a home with a posted ‘No Loitering’ sign. Police say Scott started to act suspiciously, tried to get away and resisted arrest. When he was taken into custody, officers found 115 bags of heroin on him.

Scott is behind bars on $30,000 cash bail, $1000 secured bond and $50.00 unsecured bond.
