The National Weather Service has issued a bulletin advising of an enhanced risk of wildfire spread this afternoon.

The risk area includes the entire Jersey Shore. It’s due to northwest winds increasing to 10 to 15 miles per hour, with occasional gusts up to 20 miles per hour, late this morning and into the afternoon hours following a cold frontal passage.

“A drier airmass will also build south, and relative humidity values will range from 25 to 30 percent. Additionally, fine fuels are dry across the region,” the bulletin advises. “These conditions could potentially support an enhanced risk for the spread of wildfires by the late morning or afternoon.”

As Smokey Bear says, “Only you can prevent wildfires.” Here are some tips from him.
