The 10th anniversary of the Prostate Cancer Foundation’s annual Philadelphia fundraiser was held Oct. 2 at the Four Seasons Hotel. The event, which last year raised $820,000, was expected to raise nearly $1 million this year to support the work of promising young prostate cancer researchers in Philadelphia.
Drawing about 400 guests, the dinner was co-chaired by former Wall Street trader Mike Milken; Neal Rodin of International Financial Company, and Clay Hamlin of LBCW Investments. Comcast-Spectacor chair Ed Snider was the honorary event chair.
A new focus for the Philadelphia event this year was to raise funds to help local university researchers figure out why African American men are 50 percent more likely than white men to get prostate cancer and twice as likely to die of it. In addition to dinner and an auction, the evening also included two panel discussions led by Milken.
The Prostate Cancer Foundation was founded by Milken, who was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in ’93 after being released from prison for securities violations. The Santa Monica-based foundation has raised more than $479 million since 1993 and provided funding to over 1,600 research projects at nearly 200 institutions around the world.
