Memoir or ME-moir?

    Type in “memoir” on a book-selling website, and close to 200,000 hits will come up. Why this need to write down and share our stories?

    The memoir selection ranges from books written by celebrities and history-makers, to life stories of everyday kind of people: moms, dads, siblings, people who have lived interesting lives, overcome adversities, suffered an illness or addiction.

    In addition to the many printed memoirs, there are online blogs, and one could argue that in using social media, people share miniature episodes of their lives with an audience. Why this need to write down and share our stories?
