Medicare charges

St. Mary Medical Center in Bucks County will pay $3.2 million to the federal government after overbilling Medicare. The hospital discovered the charges in a self-audit, which revealed it had charged for one-day visits in instances that were outpatient or observation visits.

The Bucks County Courier Times reports because the hospital found and reported the error, it will not have to enter into a Corporate Integrity Agreement overseen by the feds.

Health & Science reporter Carolyn Beeler will have a full report on this story later.
