Mayfair Civic discusses successful events, playground funding

The Mayfair Civic Association met Tuesday, May 31 — the first meeting since the Mayfair May Fair, Fallen Heroes Walk/Run and Easter Egg Hunt.

All three were considered successes, and the focus is still on fundraising for the Mayfair Memorial Playground. More than $20,000 has been raised for the playground and the Civic is pursuing formal approval from the School District of Philadelphia.

The Civic is also actively preparing for next year’s Shamrock Shuttle event on Frankford Avenue. A preliminary meeting with area business owners, participating bar owners, nearby civic and business associations and the 15th District has proven a need for the following: “more security, more police, a takeover by the business association, portapottie trailers, increased fees, no open containers, a press conference, proper signage, etc.” Another meeting about the Shuttle will be held in September.
