DISCUSS: Weccacoe Playground/ Mother Bethel Cemetery meeting

Monday, May 5, 6:30pm. African American Museum, 701 Arch Street. Discuss the preservation and commemoration of the historic Bethel Burying Ground and renovation of Weccacoe Playground above. Public.

REVIEW: Civic Design Review May Meeting

Tuesday, May 6, 1pm. 1515 Arch Street, Room 18-029. This month Civic Design Review will weigh in on a 48-unit development in Point Breeze, CHOP’s expansion and the SLS International Hotel and Residences at Broad and Spruce streets. Public.

ENGAGE: Gray Area Preservation Provocateur: Rick Lowe

Tuesday, May 6, 6-8pm. African American Museum, 701 Arch Street. As the finale of Gray Area’s speaker series Rick Lowe will discuss “art making and the future of preservation.” Lowe, an artist and activist, founded Houston’s Project Row Houses, which builds community, rehabs traditional housing, and provides space for low-income families, artists, and businesses. Free, register in advance.

TOUR: Boxer’s Trail and Fairmount Park mansions

Tuesday, May 6, 5:30-7:30pm. Meet at 33rd and Ridge station. Walk with the Philadelphia Parks Alliance and Bob Thomas to check out the Boxer’s Trail and several historic mansions, including Strawberry and Mt. Pleasant, along the trail overlooking the Schuylkill. $20, $15 for members. Register online.
