3 juveniles in custody in assault by Philly teens

Police say three juveniles have turned themselves in to authorities in connection with an assault by a group of young people in Philadelphia last month.

Officials said a group of teenagers attacked a 36-year-old man who was walking by them on July 29 in Old City just blocks from Independence Hall. Officials identified the teens as summer school students at Mastery Charter, located a few blocks away from the attack.

On the same day, random attacks by teenagers elsewhere in Center City injured several other people. An 11-year-old boy was among those arrested.

Mayor Michael Nutter strongly condemned such violence Sunday and also had harsh words for the teens’ parents. On Monday, he announced an earlier weekend curfew in some areas, extended youth center hours and other measures.
