No changes after Delaware vote recounts

The Delaware Department of Elections has performed recounts for two races following Tuesday night’s primary.

The recount between Sen. Robert Marshall and Wilmington City Councilwoman Sherry Dorsey-Walker concludes that Marshall won the State Senate District 3 primary with 37 votes.

In Sussex County, a recount was performed for the race between Sheriff Jeff Christopher and Robert Lee. The election office determined that Lee ousted Christopher for the Republican nomination for Sussex County Sheriff on the November ballot with just 21 votes.

Election Commissioner Elaine Manlove said recounts are uncommon in Delaware.

“It’s pretty unusual,” she said. “We see it happen every couple of years.”

A recount is required by law if the number of votes separating the candidates falls at or below 0.5 percent.

Election officials preformed the recounts by hand-counting absentee ballots.
