Manayunk-Roxborough Food Co-op Initiative gears up for inaugural fundraiser this week

After nine months of gauging interest and conducting committee meetings to discuss co-op philosophies and financial details, the Manayunk-Roxborough Co-op Initiative will begin raising funds to bring a community-owned grocery market to the neighborhood.

Lucky’s Last Chance, at 4421 Main Street, will host a fundraiser for the co-op initiative this Thursday, Jan. 31, from 6 to 9 p.m. The event will include several opportunities for residents to speak with members of the steering committee.

Organizer David Schiman encourages local foodies to attend whether or not they may be future stakeholders.

“All of our volunteers have worked hard to shape the rough outlines of our organization,” he says. “Now, we want to share a beer with neighbors and talk about fresh, local food.”
