‘Manayunk on Ice’ returns for third year on Main Street

The ‘Manayunk on Ice’ winter festival is back for its third year on Main Street this weekend. 

The free, three-day professional ice-carving event kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with a fire-and-ice-themed bonfire in the Carson Street parking lot. There, guests will watch as performance carvers from Fear No Ice light a towering block of ice on fire. 

To complement this year’s theme of fire and ice, food trucks will serve up fiery hot treats along with frosty craft beers.

On Saturday, from 12 to 4 p.m., guests can take a stroll down Main Street to watch 27 professional ice carvers create their masterpieces in front of the Manayunk storefronts. Guests are encouraged to vote for their favorite sculpture throughout the day. 

“It’s a fun thing to do with the family and the carvers will interact with the crowd,” said Alicia Dietzmann, public relations coordinator for the Manayunk Development Corporation. “Carvers will spray the crowd with ice and keep the excitement going.”

The events will wrap up Sunday when eight competitors go head to head in 30-minute intervals to create an ice sculpture with a surprise theme. The winner, selected by the crowd, will win a cash prize of $2,000.
