Manayunk Arts Fest application deadline extended

In less than four months, Manayunk’s Main Street will be closed off to traffic and blanketed with more than two-hundred white tents filled with original paintings, sculptures, photographs, jewelry and much more.

Visitors sporting shorts, t-shirts and sunglasses will roam the streets clutching bottles of water and cups of ice cream as they examine works of art in the steamy summer weather.

This year marks the 22nd year of the two-day Manayunk Arts Festival, which is organized by the Manayunk Development Corporation and scheduled to take place on June 25 and 26.

Artists interested in participating have been given one extra week to sign up for what organizers call the largest outdoor, juried arts festival in the region.

Last week, the Manayunk Development corporation extended the application deadline from Feb. 28 to Mar. 7 due to high demand from artists.

Along with the application, all artists are asked to submit four high resolution images of work to be displayed at the festival, one high resolution image of their exhibit display and a jury fee of $30.

All work will be looked over by a four-person jury of art experts who will discuss the submission and score each piece of work this month. Artists with the highest score will be chosen to participate in this year’s festival. Artist notifications are scheduled to be sent out on Apr. 1.

Last year, the festival brought in 275 exhibitors from up to 22 states.  According to the Manayunk Development Corporation’s website, the same amount of exhibitors will be chosen for the coveted spots in this year’s exhibit.

The festival kicks off with an invitation-only launch party on June 24, followed by the two-day festival. For more information, visit the Manayunk Development Corporation’s website.
