Main Street Market signs lease for former Saxbys shop

Just one week after Saxbys Coffee closed its doors on Main Street in Manayunk, it appears the property owner, Eadeh Enterprise, already has a new tenant.

A large green “Main Street Market” sign now marks the territory. Rich Rivera, co-owner of Belvedere Business Group which owns Main Street Market, located next door to where Saxbys once operated, said the lease to expand operations into that space is signed.

“As far as we’re concerend, it’s a done deal,” Rivera said, declining to give any more details on the deal.

As Rivera took inventory at his store, he said he’s had his eye on the Saxbys location since the market first opened last year.

There’s no word yet on how soon the grocery store would expand into the new space.

Last week, a marketing coordinator for Saxbys claimed the shop was only closed temporarily for renovations and would be back open in February. A follow up call to Saxbys on Tuesday was not returned.

Garrett Elwood, director of economic development at the Manayunk Development Corporation, said last week the Manayunk Saxbys franchise location was closed “due to legal action from multiple creditors.”
