LeVar Burton to deliver keynote at Black Achiever Awards

The actor who starred in the television miniseries Roots and other shows including Reading Rainbow and Star Trek: The Next Generation will speak tonight at the Walnut Street YMCA’s annual fundraiser.

The event supports the Y’s Black Achievers program, which is designed to improve academic, career and leadership development of teens.  Director of the Black Achiever program Claire Lamar Carey says Burton is an ideal role model for the program, “Because of his concern for youth development and social responsibility- themes that are a part of the fabric of the YMCA’s value.”  Carey says, “He promises to deliver an address that is both educational and inspirational.”

The event starts tonight at 6:30 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington.
