Kane to appeal perjury conviction

A Pennsylvania attorney general convicted of perjury plans to appeal her conviction and 10- to 23-month jail sentence.

Pottstown’s Mercury newspaper reported that Kathleen Kane has hired Harrisburg lawyer Joshua Lock to handle her appeal. A court filing Tuesday didn’t indicate what legal claims she’ll raise to seek a new trial.

A jury this year convicted the first-term Democrat of leaking grand jury documents to the press to embarrass a rival prosecutor and lying about it under oath.

Kane didn’t testify at the Montgomery County trial. She was convicted of two felony perjury counts and seven misdemeanors and resigned. She’s free on $75,000 cash bail.

The 50-year-old Kane lives near Scranton and has two teenage sons. She had asked the judge to sentence her to probation or house arrest so she could be home to raise them.
