Investigation continues into deadly crash at Delaware construction site

Delaware State Police are still investigating the cause of a collision along Route One that killed a driver and snarled traffic for hours near the Christiana Mall.

29-year-old Jennifer Kemp of Newark died at the scene.  Troopers say her car left the northbound left lane and traveled into the median Sunday afternoon.  Her car crashed into a pile-driving crane that was being stored horizontally in a construction zone, and ended up partially pinned under it. It took a couple of hours for paramedics and local firefighters to release her from the wreckage.

According to State Police, Kemp was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol was not a factor.

Route One was closed between Churchmans Road and Route 273 for about three hours, snarling traffic near the mall and delaying the trip home for beach visitors and other travelers.
